This is a general election year. People have the right and the duty to know the
positions of candidates. In this article we limit ourselves to the positions of
Donal Trump regarding abortion and LGBT ideology. (In another article we state
the positions of Kamala Harry regarding the same issues.) Let us recall that the
Catholic Church teaches that the most important issue is the protection of
human life, especially that of the most innocent and defenseless among us.
The Church, like Jesus, does not condemn men and women who somehow
have fallen into the grave sin of abortion. But, also like Jesus, She urgently and
lovingly calls them to true repentance and healing.
We don’t tell anybody for whom to vote or for what party to vote. Every Catholic
will have to decide so at the time of voting, but always in the light of Church
teaching, which we have presented in another article. Let us recall that the
protection of innocent and defenseless human life seriously obliges in
conscience not only Catholics but all persons of good will.
The following are the positions of Donald Trump regarding abortion and LGBT:
◼ Sadly, Trump has distanced himself and his Republican Party from a more
pro-life position that they both used to hold. He only condemns late
abortions (those committed in the second and third trimester). These
abortions constitute only 2% of all abortions committed yearly in the U.S.
◼ Trump accepts first trimester abortions, abortions till the 12th week of
pregnancy. He even criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for signing the
Heartbeat Law. This law protects unborn babies since the detection of their
heartbeats, something that takes place since the sixth week of pregnancy.
Trump even said that this law is “too harsh”. Too harsh for who?
◼ At the same time, though, Trump said he will vote “no” on Amendment 4.
This extreme and deceitful pro-abortion amendment will be in the
November 5th ballot, at the time of the general election.
◼ On the other hand, Trump has promised that, if elected president he will
force healthcare companies to pay for in vitro fertilizations (IVF). But IVF
causes the death of millions of babies at the embryonic stage worldwide.
◼ His vice-president pick, JD Vance, who claims to be “Catholic”, approves of
the horrible pro-abortion pill Mifepristone. This pill kills babies by starvation
till the 9th week of pregnancy. It is also dangerous for women. So far, at least
32 women have died because of it in the U.S. We must assume that Trump
also approves of this baby killing drug.
◼ It is good to know, though, that Trump does not support U.S. proabortion
monster Planned Parenthood (PP), nor does he receive its support.
Therefore, it is very likely that Trump won’t approve of funding PP inside the
U.S. nor overseas, where it is called International Planned Parenthood
Federation (IPPF). He won’t fund either proabortion United Nations or at
least will cut some of their funds. He did so during his presidency.
◼ If elected president, Trump has promised he will not sign a federal law
approving abortion for the entire country that would supersede state pro-life
laws. Sadly, though, he won’t sign either a pro-life federal law. He believes
that this is something that ought to be left to the states, which is the present
situation.
◼ Sadly also, Trump is not in favor of a pro-life amendment to the U.S.
Constitution that would define personhood from the moment of
conception, thus prohibiting all abortions. This used to be the position of at
least some leaders of the Republican Party.
◼ Unfortunately, Trump supports the LGBT agenda for adults. But he is against
so-called “gender transitions” (so-called “sex changes”) for minors.
