Mass Intentions
The tradition of offering Masses for our loved ones, particularly for the repose of the faithfully departed souls in purgatory, originates in the very early Church. In fact, the act of praying for the dead is referenced throughout the Old Testament in 2 Maccabees 12:43-46, Job 19:1, 23-27, and Lamentation 3:17-26. Because the celebration of the Eucharist is the highest form of worship in the Catholic Church, there are many spiritual fruits that are given when we, as her members, unite ourselves with Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

"In the celebration of the Eucharistic Sacrifice, the Church prays that God, the Father of mercies, will grant His children the fullness of the Holy Spirit so that they may become one body and one spirit in Christ. In raising this prayer to the Father of lights, from whom comes every good endowment and every perfect gift, the Church believes that she will be heard, for she prays in union with Christ her Head and Spouse, who takes up this plea of His Bride and joins it to His own redemptive sacrifice" (Ecclesia de Eucharistia,No. 43, St. Pope John Paul II).
